TransLink’s South of Fraser Rapid Transit project is a key component of the City of Surrey’s integrated land use plan and the region’s transportation future. It includes a two-line, 27 km network, linking Downtown Surrey with regional town centers and will support compact urban development along the corridors with a proposed nineteen stops.
The project is split into the Surrey LRT, Newton-Guildford Line and the Surrey-Langley Rapid Transit Line.
The Surrey-Langley Rapid Transit Line is a proposed 17 km service which could be developed as either a SkyTrain or LRT project. It links the cities of Langley and Surrey, as well as the Township of Langley. The line would serve the SkyTrain network in Surrey but also connect to several major bus exchanges and the Newton-Guildford LRT.
How we helped
Steer and joint venture partner, Hatch, have been responsible for delivering +/- 30% design and +/- 15% cost estimation certainty, as well as business case development to secure funding for both projects. Steer has been responsible for project management, LRT planning and operations, active transportation and transit integration planning, ridership forecasting and pedestrian modeling, and business case inputs development.
Successes and outcomes
The project team successfully helped TransLink create designs that reflected the needs of its numerous municipal and provincial stakeholders. The project awaits further funding and technology decision in order to be carried forward.
