The North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) covers the sixth largest geographic region in England, at just over 3,000 square miles. Within this area, a significant pipeline of regional energy projects has been identified, the largest subset of which is the £500m Heat Networks pipeline.
The North East LEP has decided to investigate an innovative whole-region approach to their heat network investments, with all seven local authorities (that are part of the NE LEP) working together to achieve the best outcome. They have recognised the potential for accelerating investment by aggregating the project pipeline, and as a result, they have asked Amberside Advisors, a Steer company, to deliver an Investment Study that would help inform the decision-making process in regard to their heat network development.

Amberside Advisors have worked on a number of mandates in the North East region, including delivery of a very similar study for City Heat Network (model and business case appraisal), as well as an assessment of future IAMP infrastructure, both for Sunderland City Council.
